چکیده

Grammar inference deals with determining (preferably simple) models/grammars consistent with a set of observations. There is a large body of research on grammar inference within the theory of formal languages. However, there is surprisingly little known on grammar inference for graph grammars. In this paper we take a further step in this direction and work within the framework of node label controlled (NLC) graph grammars. Specifically, given a graph G and a set S of disjoint and isomorphic subgraphs of G, we characterize whether or not there is an graph grammar consisting of one production such that G may be derived from G0, the graph obtained from G by “contraction” of each subgraph in S to a node labelled by N . This generalizes a previous result which assumes boundary NLC graph grammars, and leads one to consider the more involved “non-confluent” graph grammar rules.

Constructing Confluent Context-sensitive Graph Grammars from Non-confluent Productions for Parsing Efficiency

The efficient parsing algorithms are usually confined to confluent graph grammars in context-sensitive formalisms, whereas the confluence condition is not frequently met by graph grammars in practical applications. This paper, based on the Reserved Graph Grammar (RGG) formalism, proposes an extended formalism XRGG which allows imposing constraints characterizing application situations on graph ...

Combinatorial properties of boundary NLC graph languages

Node label controlled (NLC) grammars are graph grammars (operating on node labeled undirected graphs) which rewrite single nodes only and establish connections between the embedded graph and the neighbors of the rewritten node on the basis of the labels of the involved nodes only. They define (possibly infinite) languages of undirected node labeled graphs (or, if we just omit the labels, langua...

Induction of Node Label Controlled Graph Grammar Rules

Algorithms for inducing graph grammars from sets of graphs have been proposed before. An important class of such algorithms are those based on the Subdue graph mining system. But the rules learned by Subdue and its derivatives do not fit easily in any of the well-studied graph grammars formalisms. In this paper, we discuss how Subdue-like algorithms could be made to work in the context of NLC g...

Dependency Graphs Embedding Confluent Graph Grammars

Abstract: Graph grammars have been developed as an extension of the formal grammars on strings to grammars on graphs, and provide a mechanism in which transformations on graphs can be modeled in a mathematically precise way. In this paper, based on confluent graph grammars, the authors present a novel representation for data-flow graphs, control-flow graphs, combined control-data-graphs, bipart...
